A French inventor named Eugene Politzer registered a patent for a laser-based razor back in 1986.
His design was based around a HeNe laser (Helium-Neon) tucked behind a wire mesh-- hair passing through the mesh would be incinerated. It even had a built-in fan to gently keep it cool.
Seriously, we're now pushing 25 years from R&D to commercial product.
On a side note, who wouldn't want to stick their face into one of these?
